The numerous services available to the public through our library include the inter-library special ordering of audio and video materials, unlimited Internet access, and a 24-hour book drop. Also, materials checked out from the Trinity County Library in Weaverville can now be returned to the Schoolhouse Library and vice-versa! Here are just a few of the new developments we have in store:
In an effort to make this the best year ever at the Old Lewiston Schoolhouse Library and Museum, we are making new strides towards improving our services and materials in order to make a visit to the schoolhouse nothing less than a wonderful experience for locals and out-of-town travelers as well.
Much of the year 2003 was spent bringing the Schoolhouse Library up to speed with the implementation of the Dewey Decimal System. A project that reached finality this year and one that had been pending since our inception more than ten years ago, the completion of the Dewey project has made the experience of patronizing the library a much more pleasant and fruitful one for our many devoted supporters, and our library volunteers couldn't be more proud. Books are now easier to locate based on Subject, Author and Title than ever before. We are pleased to announce this new reorganization, and look forward to a bright future for the citizens of Lewiston and for the Old Lewiston Schoolhouse Library.
Your opportunities to visit the schoolhouse have recently increased as we are now accessible to the public four days per week, including weekend afternoons. If our hours are not convenient for you, we also offer special tours by appointment. So stop on by sometime soon.
No longer will local residents need to travel to the county library in Weaverville in order to enjoy newer titles from popular authors like King, Clancy, and Grafton. Thanks to our ever-expanding selection of new release books, Lewiston has it's finger on the pulse of society's appreciation for great new fiction and non-fiction titles.
A copy of the Trinity Journal is now available in our library each and every week. Area markets sometimes sell out their copies, leaving the locals and curious visitors high and dry. But with the unveiling of our newly-expanded Magazines & Periodicals section, the county's official newspaper is the perfect complement to our fresh selection of magazine titles on news, entertainment, house & home, and politics, to name just a few.
Preschool-aged kids and their parents/daycare providers gather at the Old Lewiston Schoolhouse for their weekly morning reading session; only the latest development in our ongoing campaign to make the Schoolhouse Library a fun and educational tool for people of all ages.
These beautiful 11 ounce souvenir mugs are white with the schoolhouse logo emblazoned in maroon—Only $5 each or FREE with an Honorary Membership of $50 or more. Note: Mugs are not deliverable outside the greater Lewiston area, but can be picked up at the Old Lewiston Schoolhouse. Get yours while supplies last!
For a small donation, visitors can now send and receive faxes or make color copies during patron hours; yet another example of how—through the wonders of modern technology—we're helping to bring Lewiston into the 21st Century.
And we'll see you at the library!...
Plans are currently underway for an event that will mark a new milestone for the Old Lewiston Schoolhouse. For the first time, the venerable structure will serve as the venue for the revival of the Summer Convocation, formerly an annual event at the Trinity County Library in Weaverville. The upcoming afternoon happening will include musicians, poets and other performers who will entertain the crowds in the air-conditioned environs of the schoolhouse. Admission and parking will be free, and refreshments will be served at the show. Possible show dates are being discussed. Please watch for local announcements regarding the roster of entertainers and performance schedule, or call 778-3701 for more information.
